The primary objective of the NHA ITS project was the comprehensive strengthening of IT security across the healthcare system. Protecting healthcare’s specialised and critical infrastructure is particularly important because the security of the data stored within it directly affects both patient confidence and the ability of institutions to operate. The project established a unified, centrally regulated IT service framework that supports legal compliance while standardising IT operating standards throughout the sector.
Project Challenges and Rapid Implementation
The NHA ITS project presented a unique challenge, as only 66 working days were available to complete the entire assessment, analysis and documentation process. During this period, the project team carried out comprehensive and detailed on-site assessments, analysing the IT infrastructure of 16 hospital institutions. In addition, NIS2 GAP analyses were conducted at 17 institutions, identifying security gaps and opportunities for improvement. This rapid yet comprehensive approach enabled the project to be completed on time and to a high professional standard.
Innovative Solutions for Sustainable IT Security
One of the project’s key achievements was the integration of a previously underutilised open-source application to establish a central configuration management database. This solution significantly simplified the previous manual, Excel-based system and ensures that records of healthcare institutions’ IT infrastructure remain current, transparent and easy to manage. The resulting central system fundamentally strengthens the sector’s IT security by enabling faster response and more efficient oversight.
